PHILIP ANSELMO's Hurricane Madness: More Video Footage Posted Online
September 1, 2012Former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo has posted three more short video updates from his home in New Orleans, where Hurricane Isaac lingered for the better part of two days, providing a first, successful test of the city’s $14.5 billion flood-control system assembled after 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
Katrina was responsible for the deaths of 1,800 people, most in New Orleans after the levee system failed and the city flooded.
According to CNN, Isaac. which made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane, passed slightly to the west of New Orleans, where the intricate network of levees, pumps and floodgates was "performing the way it was designed to," according to Rene Poche, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In a 2005 interview, Anselmo spoke about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, explaining, "I was stuck in a hotel room for two and a half weeks in Houston, Texas, with my Rottweiler, my other dog, and this cat I've had since 1992 or something. I wasn't even sure he was going to make it because of the trauma, but he's a tough bastard." He added, "I was surrounded by all sorts of different people from New Orleans, who were working class, earning week-to-week salaries just to buy groceries and pay rent, and everything that had was gone. Just to think about the city, its culture, its characters, just the bands that have come out of here over the last 20 years, scattered and literally washed away."
